With society changing its views, many women wanted to change the views about them. Not as many women wanted to be homemakers and more wanted to pursue an education. In 1963 the Equal Pay Act made employers pay women as much as men for the same job. Many women influenced others to take a stand on the negative outlook society had given them. Betty Friedan was a major advocate for women's rights and influenced many to take a stand. She wrote the book The Feminine Mystique to describe why women should stand up for their rights.Gloria Steinem was also a book writer than was a major influencer in womens rights. The feminist movement has allowed more women to pursue and education and not feel trapped under the title society had given them.
