Communes: group living arrangements in which members shared everything and worked together. Some hippies estabilished rural communes. They dropped out of normal society and lived in these communes. These communes weren't the only places hippies gathered, they also gathered in parks or crowded apartments in large cities. One of the most famous communes was the Haight-Ashbury district. By the 1960's, thousands or hippies had flocked there. In these communes the hippies shared everything....and I mean everything!
