We started off with just letting those who wanted to voulnteer it wasn't a big deal. Then France surrendered to Germany opinions changed congress passed Selective Service and Training Act over 60,000 men inlisted. The number was so great that we didn't have enough room to house them all. We ended up making some sleep in tents instead of barracks. Then many had to use sticks as guns and stones as gerenades. Then to add to it we have sergreagated building for African Americans. They were treated unfairly. Taht was how it was back then they were looked down upon. They contributed to a great part of the war though. We tried to keep them from getting any fight time. This then resulted in many of them filling the gap for the men at war. The ones who did fight were spat on and treated rudely. Yet they still fought for our country what amazing people.
