Throughout history, men have been seen superior to women. in the late 1700's and early 1800's women were seen as models of virtue, in the home and society. In marriage, they were seen as the morally superior. However, they were still seen delicate. They did not have the same rights men did; they could not vote and did not have the same educational opportunities men did. They were to stay in the home, to raise children correctly, and because the outside was dangerous. In the 1830's, there was a rush of reform movements. Women saw this as an opportunity to create chances for better education for themselves and younger generations. In 1837 opened in Massachusetts. It was the first school that offered girls a higher education. This began a landslide we call the Women’s Rights Movement, in which Susan B Anthony would be a major player. Many years and women would ensure that they would someday be equal to men, as they are now.
