Not all Americans soldiers were drafted two millions were volunteers. Many people joined because of stories about German atrocities, or felt that democracy was at stake, or felt they were obligated to respond, or even heard stories of the Spanish American war and wanted to experience the adventure. Even though later on all the brutality of the war sunk in we still had hope. Many of are men died from disease often influenza , or combat and many were wounded. But yet we carry on.
