Trench Warfare was tough on soldiers. They had to look out for rats and small animals that would infect them and get them sick. Sometimes the supplies were short such as food water and ammunition for the battles they were in all the time. Medics were short to. If you were injured You just had to suck it up until something could be done to stop the bleeding or something. If death occurred the bodies would be near and the rotting would smell so bad that some soldiers could not sleep or concentrate on the battle. Body and hair lice were also a part of the war because there were always so dirty that the infection was all over the place. Rats grew to be the size of cats because they gorged and fed on the dead. Trenches would sometimes collapse on soldiers because of the bombing and battling.
