Rosa Parks
December 1, 1955 was the day the Montgomery Bus
Boycott officially started. This meant that all blacks
would stop riding busses until they could sit anywhere
they wanted. Whites thought that they were better
than blacks just because of skin color, even though
they had no choice of what color they were. Blacks
were a huge part of the city busses income because
they usually didn't have enough money to buy a car.
So when they went on strike it gave the city no choice
but to listen. It all started when a lady named Rosa
Parks refused to give up her seat to a white male on
the city bus. The white man wasn't enough of a
gentleman to just let the lady sit there so had her
arrested. Nixon was the president at the time and
heard what had happened so he rushed to the jail and
bailed her out. He later asked her, "Mrs. Parks, with
your permission we can break down segregation on the
bus with your case." She thought it over and decided
that she would do it.
