The Missouri Compromise:

In 1819 tensions rose when Missouri turned in a application to become a state.

In 1819 the was 11 free and 11 slave states. So if there became any more either

slave or free, it would make the union un balanced. The Northern states did not

want slavery to expand to the Western States. All though the Southern did.

Missouri wanted to beocme a slave state. But the House of Reps. said you could

not bring slave Missouri.
