The Normandy invasion began with overnight parachutes and glider landings, massive air attacks, naval bombardments. As we progressed to begin our full fledged attack on the islands of Normandy. We now know the islands each had code names. There code names were Gold, Juno, Sword, Utah, and Omaha. Each was a horrific and gruesome battle that we had to over come. Especially in my perspective was the island called Omaha. Right as we were getting off the boats our troops were getting shot at from every point you could possibly think of. Normandy was a terrifying loss of men for us. The "D-Day" forces deployed from bases along the south coast of England, the most important of these being Portsmouth.
