Riots broke out over the governments way of handling the war and scarcity of food and fuel. Czar NIcholas II gave up his throne. This marked the Russian Revolution. A temporary government took over. The leaders wanted to stay in the war, but they couldn't deal with the major problems afflicting the nation, like food shortage.

In 1917 Vladimir Lenin overthrew and established a communist government. after he fixed things in the Eastern Front, he put his focus on the west.
