Militarism
Militarism is the aggressive build-up of armed forces to intimidate and threaten other nations. German militarism eventually forced Britain to become involved in the alliance system. Britain's policy was to support weaker countries against stronger ones so as to make sure no country conquered all of Europe. By the late 1800's, is was clear that Germany had become the strongest nation in Europe. The naval race greatly increased tensions between Germany and Britain and convinced the British to establish closer relations with France and Russia.
