Election
In The election of 1960, JFK ran for president against Richard M. Nixon. The U.S. had never had a catholic president, so many protestants had concerns about Kennedy's catholicism. Kennedy Replied " I believe in an America where separation of church and state is absolute". Thanks to his political views and stunning good looks, Kennedy won.
New Frontier
Kennedy set out to to implement a new legislative agenda known as The New Frontier. With this, he hoped to increase aid in education, provide health insurance for the elderly, and create a department of Urban Affairs. However, Southern democrats (who were a large part of the democratic majority in congress) viewed The New Frontier as too expensive, and with the Republicans, managed to defeat many of Kennedy's proposals (haters)
Economy Although the economy had soared through the 50's, it had drastically slowed by the end of the decade. In order to increase economic growth and create more jobs, JF advocated deficit spending. He convinced congress to invest more funds in defense and space exploration. That spending did create more jobs and stimulated econimic growth
Woman's Rights In 1961, The Kenster created the Presidential Commission on the Status of Women (nothing weird). The commission called for federal action against gender discrimination. The commission also proposed the Equal Pay Act, demanding the women and men be paid equally, which FK signed in 1936
