The United States aimed to outlaw racial discrimination in the 1960 against African Americans. Organizations such as the NAACP, SNCC, CORE and SCLC were active in the civil rights movement, but it was very difficult because the government was under fundemental issues. From the years 1955-1968, it was a constant battle for the African Americans to win their rights. Acts of nonviolent protest created many situations between activists and the government authorities. Forms of protest, or civil disobedience were things such as boycotts, sit-ins, marches and a wide range of nonviolent activities. The Civil Rights Movement in 1964 banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, or national origin in emplloyment practices and public places. The Voting Rights act in 1965 restored and protected voting rights to African Americans.
