On August 6, 1945, a B-29 bomber named Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb code-named "little boy" on Hiroshima, Japan which at the time was a very important industrial city. Between 80,00 and 120,00o people died that day, but many died later from burns and radiation. Later that day the Americans dropped another atomic bomb, code-named "fat man," on the city of Nagasaki, killing between 35,000 and 74,000 people. On August 15, 1945 (V-J Day) the JApanese surrendered to the United states and the war was over.
