Alvin York

York was born in a poor family in Tennessee.

He learned how to use a gun by hunting Big

Game with his dad. York tried to avoid

the draft because his religion was against

killing people. He later decided that it

was okay because it was for a cause that

was just. While in war, his platoon was

attacked by the Germans and killed nine

of his people. York then took charge and led

the platoon to a victory. When he got home,

he raised enough money to start a school for

poor Tennessee kids called Alvin

York Institute.
